Tough Mudder - Training Update - 6 Aug 2019

With less than a fortnight to go now until Hartford Care’s Tough Mudder Team tackles a 5km, 13 obstacle course on Saturday 17th August, we caught up with Jo, Maryanne and Nicky to find out how their training is progressing.

Jo, our Brand Director, who is married to Sean, the CEO, has been taking a pragmatic view so far.

“Last week, it was raining so I didn’t get up and go running. Sean asked me why I hadn’t gone on my run and when I told him ‘It’s raining’, he reminded me that I am going to get much, much wetter when I do the course!”

However, Jo can now run further than she has ever done in her life, so she reckons the training is building her stamina.

She combines this with Hot Yoga twice a week. “I am unsure if this is going to help me get through Tough Mudder as my favourite pose is Savasana, which literally means ‘corpse pose’!”

Maryanne has decided to adopt a more mind over matter approach to her training. “I am using the power of positive thinking to get me through the course.”

However, she is now going to supplement this with nightly visits to the gym having completed a successful session on the treadmill at the weekend. “I am sure it will be all be fine and I will laugh my way round!”, Maryanne, our Clinical Development Lead declared.

Nicky, on the other hand, has been in serious training. Faced with a daunting series of obstacles with names such as the Mudderhorn, The Gauntlet and Leap of Faith and happy to try out new things, Nicky, one of our Regional Managers enlisted the help of a friend who lives on a farm where she climbed a mountain of hay bales, successfully reaching the summit.

“I have been attending boot camp weekly and doing some classes at the gym. In fact, during one session, I managed to complete 1000 squats!”

The three of them will have the best incentive to make it around the course – raising money for Hartford Care’s chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support. Please support them by making a donation through our Just Giving page:

We will of course bring you a full report afterwards of their epic day out at Badminton in south Gloucestershire and how much money they have raised for this wonderful charity.
